Lighting, Grip and Electric, Every Production’s Must Have List
In the television production industry there are items that every show needs in order to get through a shoot with ease. This is where the Lighting, Grip and Electric departments come into play.
Did you know Imagecraft has a Gaffer on staff available for questions and advice? Ron Wisnesky has over 40 years of experience working behind the scenes in television and movies. Ron gave his opinion on what every production can’t be without.
Ron’s list includes what most production savvy folks would expect with explanations and some advice for those looking to place orders.
Lights – ARRI kits because they are compact, easily transported and versatile. LED panel lights because they are lightweight, have color options, are convenient and have AC/DC power options. KinoFlo Divas, Parabeams and Bar flys are also preferred lights for their versatility and low amperage draw making power needs less overall for the show.
Stands – It’s important to have the correct stand for the job and in the production industry there are SO many to choose from for anything and everything that needs to be held up, over or under a set to make a shot work.
Cable and power distribution – this is like gas for the car. No power, no show. It’s that simple.
Also on Ron’s list are flags, sand bags, apple boxes, expendables and a crew that knows what to do with all of it.
Ron says, “Every location has specific needs; are you shooting indoors our out doors? What kind of power is available? Will you be shooting in daylight or at night?” These questions will determine what a client will order and how they will be using it.
This all might sound a little redundant, but it’s a good reminder that it’s not just cameras and lenses that make a great shot happen, but all of the unseen details and equipment that support the camera work and make the crew’s life a little easier.
Imagecraft’s Lighting, Grip and Electric departments are stocked and available.
