The Fostex PD6 is a professional hybrid portable mixer and recorder that represents the latest and most versatile development in timecode based location recording.
The PD6 records up to 6 tracks of audio to an 8 cm DVD RAM disk, or the internal 40 GB hard drive, with audio resolution of up to 24 bit, 96 kHz, incorporating workstation operating and editing modes, for quick and accurate on site or post production transfer. In addition to the inclusion of both Firewire and USB ports as standard features for computer integration, all SMPTE time code frame rates are supported by the built in time code generator, and a Word Clock and Video Sync connector section is standard as well, offering very complete location synchronization capability.
The onboard six channel mixer of the PD6 offers a variety of routing options and the headphone monitoring matrix is unusually comprehensive. The XLR analog inputs and outputs, and the thoughtful inclusion of an Auxiliary I/O section with full routing and monitoring access, offer the field recordist a clean and simple signal path with optimal level control.
The transports are large, rugged and of a familiar tape type, and the availability of both 48 V phantom and 12 T power enables the use of virtually any condenser microphone for recording. The 12 Volt power output connectors, rarely found on even the more elite professional field mixers, allow for the powering of portable wireless receivers and other devices and increase the self-containment factor of the PD6 as a portable recording solution.
